The Essence of Olive Oil; An Olive Oil & Food Pairing Experience

This winter we added a new event to our fundraising line up as we hosted The Essence of Olive Oil; An Olive Oil & Food Pairing Experience. Olive Oil tasting events like this are rare in West Michigan and we saw this as an opportunity for people to learn about gourmet olive oils and taste authentic Italian cuisine at the same time. The experience was held on Thursday February 4, 2010 and brought 40 guests to our office for a flavorful evening of discussion and great food.
Field Reichardt of The Organic Olive Oil Company in Grand Haven, MI led the tasting portion of the event and helped participants develop a personal frame of reference for tasting olive oil. Similar to a wine or beer tasting, participants left the event with a newfound education on how to purchase, store, taste, and cook with some of the world’s finest organic olive oils.
Following Field’s presentation, participants had the opportunity to taste several olive oil infused dishes prepared by Michelin rated Chef Maria Cristina Rinaudi of Ristorante Le Torri in Peidmonte, Italy. We would like to give a special thank you to our friends with the GVSU Hospitality & Tourism Management Department for making Chef Maria Cristina such an integral part of our event!
